NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Strategic Equilibrium with Major Powers amid Changing World Order”

The NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Strategic Equilibrium with Major Powers amid Changing World Order”, organised by the Strategic Studies Center (SSC), National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI), Royal Thai Armed Forces, Thailand, was held virtually from 21 to 22 June 2023. Major General Taksin Sirisingha, Director of SSC, chaired the Workshop.

The NADI Workshop discussed the challenges ASEAN Member States (AMS) face dealing with the major power rivalry between China and the United States, particularly on the impacts to ASEAN Centrality, unity and relevance. The delegates considered the importance of ASEAN-led mechanisms and platforms; the maintenance of rules, norms and principles in ASEAN’s relations with the major powers; and of ASEAN speaking in one voice in maintaining stable and balanced relations between ASEAN and the major powers. To that end, the delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of ASEAN and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), to maintain strategic equilibrium with the major powers.

The Chairman’s Report of the NADI Workshop, together with the agenda and programme, are attached.
