NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Centrality in An Era of Great-Power Competition”

The NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Centrality in An Era of Great-Power Competition”, organised by the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), was held from 16 to 17 December 2021. Brigadier General (Retired) Archimedes H Viaje, President of NDCP, chaired the Workshop.

The delegates shared their perspectives on how ASEAN Member States (AMS) can uphold the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and international rule of law, and promote ASEAN Centrality. They also shared their perspectives on the implications of heightening US-China rivalry on ASEAN and Southeast Asia, as well as on the broader region. The delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ADMM, to strengthen cooperation among AMS and ASEAN’s internal cohesion by supporting capacity-building efforts, enhancing platforms of cooperation, and promoting the commitment of AMS and Plus countries towards ASEAN’s norms and principles.

The Chairman’s Report of the NADI Workshop, together with the agenda and programme, are attached.
