NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Security Challenges in the Next Five Years (2023-2027)”

The NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Security Challenges in the Next Five Years (2023-2027)”, organised by the Strategic Studies Center (SSC), National Defence Studies Institute (NDSI), Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, Thailand, was held virtually from 28 to 30 June 2022. Major General Pratuang Piyakapho, Director of SSC, chaired the Workshop.

The NADI Workshop discussed common traditional and non-traditional security challenges that ASEAN faces in the next five years, including climate change, pandemics, cyber security, transnational crime, as well as food, energy and water security. They discussed various scenarios that could unfold in the Southeast Asia region, and agreed that, in the context of major power rivalry, ASEAN must make all efforts to maintain its Centrality and unity. The delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ADMM, on how ASEAN should address these challenges.
