NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Defence Cooperation in Dealing with Climate Change”

The NADI Workshop on “ASEAN Defence Cooperation in Dealing with Climate Change”, organised by the Institute for Defence Strategy (IDS), Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam, was held in the Muong Thanh Luxury Quang Ninh Hotel, Ha Long, Vietnam, from 22 to 25 July 2019. Major General Dr. Dang Quang Minh (Acting Director General, IDS) chaired the NADI Workshop.

NADI delegates shared their perspectives of how climate change will adversely impact the Southeast Asia region, and how ASEAN Member States are dealing with this issue. Delegates also suggested ways in which ASEAN Member States, and ASEAN as a whole, could mitigate climate change and handle its impacts. The delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ADMM, to provide training at the Track I level, and promote the transfer of expertise in technologies and human resources to the ASEAN Member States. They also recommended that each ASEAN Member State establish coordination centres and study the possibility of establishing a regional crisis management and response centre to coordinate HADR efforts, including information sharing.
