Right wing’s influence pushes Chinese voters to swing towards BN

Saleena Saleem, an associate research fellow with the Malaysia Programme at NTU RSIS, wrote a commentary on Barisan Nasional (BN)’s twin wins in the recent by-elections in Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak. The results indicated that the Islamisation agenda pushed by right wing politicians and Islamic non-governmental organisations, at a time when the opposition coalition is fractured, can motivate non-Muslim swing voters to make pragmatic choices, which can play to BN’s advantage.
