Despite setbacks, IS is far from defeated
Ahmad Saiful Rijal Hassan, a Senior Analyst at the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) RSIS, NTU, wrote in his commentary that despite military setbacks, worldwide Muslim opposition, and the adverse ground situation in Iraq and Syria for the Islamic State do not mean that defeat is on the horizon. On the contrary, Sunni grievances over discrimination, governance and human rights abuses against the Shia-dominated governments in Baghdad and Damascus provide IS with ample grounds for exploitation.
