Don’t Just Rely on Technology to Fight Climate Change. Reduce Consumerism Instead
In a commentary, Margareth Sembiring, who is Associate Research Fellow at RSIS, said that technology developments, while beneficial, cannot avert our planet from climate-induced catastrophes. Reliance on technologies she said, runs the risk of people treating only the symptoms without addressing the root causes of the problem. Ms Sembiring said the population cannot go on doing what we have been doing because technologies will clean up after us. Instead, we should moderate our consumption behaviour, such as purchasing new clothes, and be mindful of the use of electricity in our life.
