China Reporter Attacked by Hong Kong Protesters Now a Mainland Hero
A reporter for China’s nationalist tabloid, Global Times, was beaten and tied up by angry demonstrators at Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday after he was found by protesters with a T-shirt bearing the words “I love Hong Kong police” in his bag. China expert James Char of the RSIS said the violent attack on a “party-state media operative” was an opportunity that Beijing has seized upon to “delegitimise the protest movement”.
