Amalina Abdul Nasi, Research Analyst at the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR), a constituent unit in the RSIS discussed the involvement of female suicide bombers in the August Jolo bombings in a commentary. The incident suggests the steady rise of female combatants in the region, she said, and there is an urgent need to address the gaps in preventing and countering violent extremism work in Southeast Asia.
