Sending Troops into HK Seen As a Last Resort for Beijing

There is no doubt that Chinese leaders are in the grip of an intense debate now, with unrest in Hong Kong escalating. Experts say military force is a consideration only if China’s political party or President Xi Jinping’s authority is directly challenged. Assoc Prof Li Mingjiang from RSIS said that even deploying a “small unit of armed police” in Hong Kong would further escalate tensions.
