More Investments Needed to Counter Terror Threats: Security Experts

SINGAPORE: Security experts say more investments in resources will be needed to counter the threat of global terrorism, and to deal with the risks of natural and industrial disasters. In particular, they point to a new global threat that is emerging with the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Stakeholders like governments and major international firms will be able to get a preview of the latest security devices and systems at the inaugural Asia Pacific Homeland Security exhibition and conference in October this year.

The global homeland security market is expected to reach about US$544 billion by 2018.

…Security experts say governments need to be prepared to tackle this new level of threat. Dr Rohan Gunaratna, professor of security studies at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, said: “Homeland security spending will continue to grow because there is a new global threat landscape that is emerging with the rise of ISIS.
