- Why Data, Including Those from TraceTogether, is Vital in Policing and Keeping Singapore Safe
Muhammad Faizal Abdul Rahman, a cyber and homeland defence Research Fellow with RSIS, wrote a commentary discussing the importance of why data, including those from TraceTogether, is vital in policing and keeping Singapore safe. After the parliamentary answer by Mr Desmond Tan, Minister of State for Home Affairs, that the police may use TraceTogether data for criminal investigations under the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), there have been some concerns about data privacy. The fight against pandemic and crime is intertwined with the struggle to preserve public support in an era where trust in governments and science is in decline around the world. Rahman notes that there is no perfect solution that will please everyone.
