- Time for PAP to Groom Future PM
THE legacy of Singapore’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and leadership renewal have been key themes for the People’s Action Party in the run-up to Singapore’s general election today.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said he plans to retire by 2020. Before the campaign began, he told reporters that current leaders have a duty to prepare for succession so that a new team is able to take over.
“This election is vitally important, to make sure the Prime Minister-in-waiting is clearly designated,” said Bilveer Singh, adjunct senior fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
Both of them, he noted, are of the same generation as Hsien Loong.
