The duration of the PhD programme depends on candidates’ ability to complete all aspects of the programme. The minimum and maximum period of candidature for full-time and part-time candidates is as follows:

RSIS MSc graduates will be required to successfully complete two core courses prior to the PhD confirmation exercise, whilst other candidates will be required to take two core PhD courses and two elective MSc courses.
A Primary and Secondary Supervisor will be appointed to offer guidance to the candidate throughout the period of study. The Primary Supervisor will act as the Chair of the student’s Thesis Advisory Committee, comprising other academics who have specialist knowledge in the subject area. Constant feedback from PhDs is expected, as well as regular contact and discussion between the PhD candidate and his/her supervisors.
Please note that candidates whose progress is not deemed satisfactory by the School may have their candidature terminated.
