Abstract
This seminar discusses Indonesia’s terrorism landscape following Jemaah Islamiyah’s (JI) dissolution in mid-2024. In doing so, Wahyudi Soeraatmadja, the Indonesia Correspondent for The Straits Times, will draw on interviews and years-long experience in the field to present three main topics: an assessment of the authenticity of JI’s disbandment and whether its leaders genuinely intend to stop “fighting for the cause;” an in-depth review of past terrorist attacks and arrests; and a more holistic understanding of JI leadership structures and internal dynamics, shaped by new information shared by JI elites following the organisation’s disbandment.
Wahyudi Soeriaatmadja is the Indonesia Correspondent for The Straits Times. He joined Singapore’s national broadsheet in July 2008, after ten years as a business reporter in Jakarta. Prior to his switch to journalism, he worked for two years at a Jakarta-based bank. Wahyudi’s reporting covers Indonesia’s dynamic political, social and religious landscape, as well as business environment and economy.
