After admission, a candidate must pursue in the University throughout his/her candidature, his/her approved course of advanced study and research. Unless specifically exempted by the Academic Board from this requirement, a candidate who is unable to fulfill this condition must seek leave of absence through his supervisor, from the Board of Graduate Studies in advance.

The Board will determine whether the leave granted to any candidate will justify an extension of the maximum period of candidature. If, during the period of leave of absence granted to a candidate, rules relating to his/her candidature are amended, the candidate on his return from leave must expect to be governed under the amended rules.
