Information for International
Students
Graduate
Students'
Accommodation
On-Campus
housing
Graduate
housing on campus is provided primarily
to new
students to help them settle in
and adjust to university life. Students
may choose from the different types
of accommodation available at Graduate
Hall, Nanyang Heights and Nanyang
Valley. All rooms are furnished
with single bed, wardrobe, study desk,
fan and
internet connection.
You are required to accept the offer of admission
to the graduate programme before you can
submit an application for housing. Application
must be submitted online at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/isc/gs+accommodation/ before
your arrival, and allocation will be on
a first-come-first served basis. On-campus
housing is limited and demand often exceeds
availability. If you are arriving
at other times in the year, please apply
at
least 1 month before your matriculation.
Off-Campus Housing
Students seeking off-campus
housing or who have been unsuccessful in
their application
for on-campus housing should begin the search
well before arrival. You will need
to work out your priorities such as the type
of room you prefer, how much you can afford
per month, how important it is for you to
be close to campus and what your living requirements
include. Neighbourhoods such as Boon
Lay, Jurong East and West are close to the
NTU campus.
Please visit ISC website http://www.ntu.edu.sg/isc/gs+accommodation/ for more information.
Student’s Pass
International students pursuing full-time courses of study in Singapore are
required to apply for a Student’s Pass from the Immigration and Checkpoints
Authority (ICA). The Student's Pass is only issued to full-time students
and not to part-time students. International students who wish to pursue
programmes on a part-time basis should obtain employment in Singapore first
before applying for admission to the University and should ensure that they
are permitted to work and reside in Singapore throughout the course of their
study by the ICA.
Passport
holders of specific countries, including
China and India, must have a valid visa
before entering Singapore.
The University will assist successful international applicants in their applications
for the Student's Pass. The costs, if any, connected with such application
will be borne by the student.
Application
for a Student’s Pass
To apply for a Student's Pass, you should have the following documents
After
receiving the Letter of Offer and
notification, you can submit Form
16 online at the ICA website www.ica.gov.sg.
(Click on SOLAR under Online Resource.) ICA
will only process your Student's Pass
application after Form 16 is submitted
online. It will take about 5 to
10 working days for ICA to process your
application.
Once
an application is approved, an In-Principle
Approval (IPA) letter will be sent
to you prior to your departure for Singapore.
The IPA letter comes with a pre-approved
single journey visa and there will not
be a separate visa sent to you. The
single journey visa allows you to stay
up to 30 days in Singapore. Students
are to produce this letter at the immigration
checkpoint upon entry into Singapore.
Students
from countries which do not require a
visa for entry into Singapore would
normally be issued a Social Visit Pass
for 14 to 30 days upon entry
into Singapore. They will
also receive the IPA letter as well.
Students are to collect their Student's
Pass at the ICA before the Social Visit
Pass expires.
Please
visit http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ISC/Immigration/Students+Pass/ for
more information.
Medical Examination
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) requires international
students with a Student’s Pass who stay in Singapore for 6 months or
more to undergo a medical examination. This includes a chest x-ray for tuberculosis
and a test for the AIDS-causing Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
For new applicants, the medical test can be done either in Singapore or overseas
using the official medical form provided by ICA. If you choose to do it in
your home country, please note that it is up to the doctors here and also
ICA whether they find it acceptable. If it is not, you will have to re-do
it. As such, we recommend that you do it here at the NTU Medical Centre.
Please visit http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ISC/Health+Matters/ for more information.
Group Hospitalisation & Surgical Insurance (GHSI)
Falling sick in Singapore can be a financial drain if the illness requires specialist
consultation, hospitalization or surgery, as international students are
not eligible for hospitalization and surgery subsidies. International
students without a local insurance policy are required to pay a
large cash deposit if they are hospitalized.
To avoid the inconvenience and costs of the above, the ISC has arranged
a GHSI scheme for all international students. It is compulsory for all full-time
international students to subscribe to the GHSI scheme arranged by the University
upon registering for admission. This is to ensure that they will be covered
financially in the event of medical emergencies that require hospitalisation
or surgery. The insurance participation form will be given to participants
during registration. Those who do not wish to join the Scheme must
produce documentary proof at registration to show that they are already holding
similar medical insurance.
Please visit http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ISC/Health+Matters/GHSI/ for
more information.
Part-Time Employment
The part-time employment scheme is applicable only to full-time graduate students
holding the Student’s Pass.
Applicants must have already completed one semester of study or equivalent
at the Nanyang Technological University; and Scholarship holders will
still be bound by the conditions of their awards with respect to employment.
Please visit http://www.ntu.edu.sg/ISC/Immigration/Part-time+Employment/ for more information. For enquiries, please contact the NTU International
Student Centre at Tel: (65) 6790 6823, Fax: (65) 6793 4558 and Email: isc@ntu.edu.sg.

relax. With more than 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students from various
parts of the world in the University, you can look forward to a culturally
diverse and rich experience. You become part of a thriving community that
encourages you to become involved in all aspects of University life. Participants
have access to a wide range of leisure and recreational facilities.
