Academic Unit
Successful completion of each MSc
programme requires a candidate to have obtained
a
total of 27 academic units (AUs). Each
course/elective is equivalent to three
AUs. The dissertation is equivalent to six
AUs.

Dissertation
Candidates who opt for the dissertation stream are required to
complete a dissertation of 10,000 words. Dissertation topics
will be selected in consultation with RSIS Faculty. Writing the
dissertation provides students the opportunity to further apply
the theoretical knowledge and analytical skills developed in the
courses taken as part of the MSc programme. It represents the
‘crowning achievement’ of the student’s period of study in the
School.
MBA
Elective Courses
The MBA courses are offered by the Nanyang Business School. Candidates can choose
no more than two
MBA elective courses.
MACC
Elective Courses (Master of Arts in Contemporary
China)
The MACC courses are offered by the School
of Humanities and Social Sciences. Candidates
can choose
no more than two MACC elective courses.
Certificate
in Terrorism Studies (CTS)
MSc (Strategic Studies) students may also opt for a specialized coursework track that would lead to the conferring of both a MSc (Strategic Studies) degree from Nanyang Technological University as well as a special Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the School’s International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR).
MSc (Strategic Studies) students opting for the CTS track must take 2 MSc (Strategic Studies) core courses. In addition, students completing a dissertation on a terrorism-related topic will take 3 CTS and 2 non-CTS courses or 4 CTS and 3 non-CTS courses for students in the non-dissertation stream.
