The NADI Workshop on Peacekeeping Operations

The NADI Workshop on Peacekeeping Operations which was organised by the Centre for Defence and International Security Studies, National Defence University of Malaysia, was held at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, from 19 to 21 October 2010. The theme of the Workshop was “Cooperation in Peacekeeping –A way forward for Asean”. The Workshop was attended by NADI representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The NADI representatives gave presentations on their country’s participation in peacekeeping operations and shared their experiences. They exchanged views on possible areas of cooperation and made the following suggestions for consideration, namely, (a) set up an expert group to identify an Asean direction based on common regional interest and to identify areas of cooperation, (b) set up an information clearing centre and (c) establish a network among current peacekeeping training centres. The NADI participants visited the the Malaysian Peacekeeping Centre in Port Dickson.
