11th NADI Meeting

The 11th NADI Annual Meeting, organised by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), was held in the Marina Mandarin Singapore Hotel, from 2 to 5 April 2018. Ambassador Ong Keng Yong (Executive Deputy Chairman, RSIS) chaired the Annual Meeting.

NADI delegates shared their respective country’s perspectives on the evolving political, security and economic environments, including the impact of major power rivalry and non-traditional security issues. Delegates emphasised ASEAN’s principles of respect for sovereignty and avoidance of entanglement in major power rivalry, and highlighted the important role of ASEAN-centric mechanisms in maintaining ASEAN unity and centrality. They also shared their respective country’s priorities in non-traditional security issues, and suggested actions needed to address them. The delegates provided recommendations, for the consideration of the ADMM, to enhance cooperation among ASEAN Member States, build capacity and strengthen interagency cooperation in non-traditional security (NTS) issues, and direct more policy attention and strategic discussions on the impact of the evolving regional situation and NTS issues such as transnational crimes and humanitarian issues.
