The NADI Workshop on ‘The Role of Military in Enhancing ASEAN HADR Cooperation in Responding to Crisis’ was organised by the Strategic Studies Center (SSC), National Defence Security Institution, at Chiang Mai Plaza, Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 26 to 29 July 2015. All NADI members attended the Workshop, which was chaired by Major General Chaianan Jantakananuruk (Director of SSC) and Group Captain Poomjai Leksuntarakorn (Director of Regional Studies Division, SSC).

The NADI delegations shared their national experiences in HADR initiatives, in particular the military’s role in the national HADR frameworks as well as cooperation in the regional context. They highlighted lessons learnt and best practices in responding to disasters and crises. Following an active exchange of views and discussion, the Workshop recommended some measures for the ADMM Track’s consideration. These recommendations aimed to enhance coordination and collaboration in HADR at both the national and regional levels. The meeting completed the research project on HADR cooperation including the role of the military, initiated by Thailand SSC with inputs from all NADI member institutions.
