NADI Workshop on Countering Extremist Narratives: Integrated Efforts and Approaches within ASEAN

The NADI Workshop on “Countering Extremist Narratives: Integrated Efforts and Approaches within ASEAN”, hosted by the Stratetgic Studies Center (SSC), National Defense Studies Institute, Royal Thai Armed Forces, was held at the Suntara Wellness Resort and Hotel, Chachoengsao, Thailand, from 18 to 22 April 2017. Colonel Kitti Kongsombat (Deputy Director, SSC) chaired the Workshop. Representatives from the NADI institutions of Brunei, Cambodia Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam attended the Workshop. Participants shared their respective country’s experiences in countering extremist narratives, including the steps taken to address the conditions conducive for their spread and the development and circulation of alternative messages to counter them. The Workshop also concurred on the recommendations to enhance cooperation on counter-narratives, to be made to the ADMM Track for their consideration.
