Assistant Professors in the following specializations:
Terrorism Studies
Applicants are expected to be scholars whose research focus on the analysis of political violence and terrorism. They are also expected to be able to manage a team of research analysts, to provide research direction, conduct threat analysis, as well as write and vet papers on political violence and terrorism.
Maritime Security
Applicants are required to have a good understanding of contemporary maritime security issues in Asia Pacific and the Indian Ocean. They should have a sound understanding of maritime affairs, International Law of the Sea and some foundation in International Relations. He or she will have an interest in naval development, maritime Strategy and some knowledge in international shipping will be desirable.
All successful candidates will be attached to the research centres of the school and will be expected to contribute to the centre’s programmes and activities. Further information on these centres is available at www.rsis.edu.sg.
In addition to having the requisite research skills, successful applicants will teach up to two courses in the School’s Master of Science Programmes. A relevant PhD and a good publication record are therefore essential requirements. Applicants are also expected to contribute to the School’s research agenda, contribute to team research and policy-oriented projects, teach in short executive programmes, and organise conferences and seminars. Experience in policy-relevant research and publication would be useful. Those with the appropriate qualifications and experience may be appointed at the Associate Professor level. Initial appointments are for three years, which are renewable, subject to mutual agreement.

Research Fellows (Science, Technology and Security Programme) in the following specializations:
Nuclear Security
Applicants are required to have a strong technical knowledge of nuclear engineering and an appreciation of the security dimension in the Asia-Pacific Region. They should have a sound understanding of dual-use technologies, nuclear safety and nuclear non-proliferation measures. They should also be familiar with methods for monitoring and securing nuclear materials, nuclear weapons development and civilian nuclear power. Applicants will conduct research and offer policy advice on evaluating effective nuclear security safeguards, tracking illicit nuclear activities, predicting future nuclear proliferation trends, and identifying gaps in existing policy and technology. Experience in nuclear public policy, nuclear security and nuclear terrorism would be desirable.
Biological Security
Applicants are required to have a strong technical background in the biological sciences and be familiar with both international and regional biotechnology security issues. They should have a sound understanding of bioethics, biosafety, bio containment and biological warfare. Applicants will research and offer policy advice on establishing biotechnology standards and safeguards, biological risk assessment, predicting future trends in biotechnology, and identifying gaps in existing policy and technology. Experience in public health policy, pandemics and biological terrorism would be desirable.
Cyber Security
Applicants are required to have a strong technical knowledge of computer science and engineering and be familiar with both international and regional cyber security issues. They should have a sound background in information security and network security. Applicants will research and offer policy advice on assessing and implementing effective cyber security standards and safeguards, evaluating cyber risks, and identifying gaps in existing policy and technology. Experience in cyber ethics and cyber terrorism would be desirable.

Applicants are expected to have a good understanding of the existing research and issues in the programme they are applying to. A relevant PhD and a good publication record are essential. Related experience and knowledge of regional cooperative frameworks in ASEAN and Asia would be an advantage.
In addition to having the skills to conduct independent research, successful applicants will also teach in the School’s Master of Science programmes. Applicants are also expected to contribute to the School’s research agenda and team research projects, and organize conferences and seminars. Experience in policy-relevant research and publication would be useful.

RSIS-MacArthur Associate Fellowship Programme, Multilateralism and Regionalism Programme, Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies
The RSIS has been awarded a three-year research grant by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The Multilateralism and Regionalism Programme at RSIS has been invited, in particular, to concentrate on one of the Foundation’s three Asian Security Initiatives: “Managing State-to-State Competition and Cooperation/Regional Security Cooperation”.
In line with this broad theme, the thematic focus of our research project is ASEAN’s role in institutional developments in Southeast Asia; multilateralism and security cooperation in Asia; and the institutionalization of great power relations in Asia.
We would like to invite suitably qualified individuals to be part of our Associate Fellowship Programme. This programme, which is for a period of up to three months, is open to junior researchers, future PhD candidates, members of NGOs, the media, as well as policy makers from across the region, but not exclusively from Asia.
In addition to having the skills to conduct independent research, applicants are expected to contribute to the School’s research agenda and Asian Security Initiative blog. Applicants are also required to assist in related seminars and conferences. The completion of one or two RSIS Commentaries and a RSIS Working Paper (to be submitted to a journal) is expected by the end of one’s term with RSIS. Experience in policy-relevant research and publication would be useful. Related experience and knowledge of regional cooperative frameworks in ASEAN and Asia would be an advantage.

Research Analyst, Track II Network of ASEAN Defense and Security Institutions (NADI)
NADI is a forum to network and build confidence and familiarity among the ASEAN think tanks and research institutions to facilitate closer cooperation. RSIS is the Secretariat of NADI.
The network invites applications for the position of Research Analyst. We seek a highly dedicated candidate who will assist the NADI Secretariat in preparing for the annual NADI meeting and workshops/seminars. The successful candidate will also be tasked to assist in research work, presentations, note taking during meetings, pre-trip briefing as well as maintaining and updating the NADI website.

Library Officer
You should have a keen interest in working in a library. You will be expected to participate in and contribute to all aspects of the provision of library services. You should possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong command of the English language, both oral and written. You may also be required to work evening and weekend shifts during the academic year.
