Associate Professor Kumar Ramakrishna
Head
Dr Kumar Ramakrishna obtained First Class (Honours)
in Political Science from the National University
of Singapore in 1989 and a Masters in Defence
Studies from the University of New South Wales
in 1992. He went on to secure his PhD in History
from Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University
of London, in 1999. His current research interests
include British propaganda in the Malayan Emergency;
propaganda theory and practice; history of strategic
thought; and counter-terrorism. He was an Asia
Foundation (US) Freeman Fellow in June 2002 and
a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute for
National Strategic Studies, National Defense University,
Washington, D.C., from April to June 2003. He
was also an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade (DFAT) Special Visitor in March 2003.
Ramakrishna has been a frequent speaker on counter-terrorism
before local and international audiences, and
published in numerous internationally refereed
journals. He has co-edited two wellreceived books
on counter-terrorism, The New Terrorism: Anatomy,
Trends and Counter-Strategies (2002) as well as
After Bali: The Threat of Terrorism in Southeast
Asia (2004). His major book, Emergency Propaganda:
The Winning of Malayan Hearts and Minds, 1948-1958,
(2002) was described by the International History
Review as “required reading for historians
of Malaya, and for those whose task is to counter
insurgents, guerrillas, and terrorists”.
He is a member of the Singapore Government Parliamentary
Committee (GPC) Resource Panel on Home Affairs
and Law, and Executive Committee Member of the
Political Science Association (Singapore).

Assistant Professor Norman Vasu
Coordinator
Dr Norman Vasu is an Assistant Professor at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He obtained a MA from the University of Glasgow in 1998 and a MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 1999. In 2004, Dr Vasu received his doctorate in International Politics from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth.
Prior to his current role at the Centre of Excellence for National Security, he was a tutor at the Department of International Politics at the University of Wales Aberystwyth from 2000-2002. At the same University he was a lecturer on International Relations for the Centre for Widening Participation and Social Inclusion from 2002-2004. Dr Vasu was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from April 2005 – March 06.
Dr Vasu has authored How Diasporic Peoples Maintain their Identity in Multicultural Societies: Chinese, Africans, and Jews (2008) and edited Social Resilience in Singapore: Reflections from the London Bombings (2007). He has published widely in journals such as Asian Ethnicity, The Kantian Review and Jane’s Homeland and Security Monitor as well as writing for several newspapers on topics surrounding multiculturalism, national security and social resilience.
His current research interests include the theories and practise of multiculturalism, transnational communities and nationalism.

Tsu Li, Yolanda
Associate Research Fellow
Yolanda Chin is an Associate
Research Fellow for the Social Resilience Programme
at the Centre of Excellence for National Security,
S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies,
Nanyang Technological University. Her current
research interest is in the role of education,
history and politics in the construction of knowledge,
identity and threat perceptions, and the representation
and management of multiculturalism.

Clinton Lorimore
Associate Research Fellow
Mr Clinton Lorimore is Associate Research Fellow for the Radicalization Programme at the Centre of Excellence for National Security, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University. He obtained his BA in Political Science from California State Polytechnic University Pomona where he focused on the issues of comparative governments and International relations. Clint then earned an MA in International Studies from Claremont Graduate University where he wrote his thesis on the Chinese Economic Model. He then went on to receive an MSc in Strategic Studies from S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies where he wrote on the issue of US, China & Southeast Asia: The Strategic Impacts of US Counterterrorism policy in Southeast Asia. His research interests include Islamic radicalization, Indonesian security, geo-politics of Southeast Asia and US Politics / Foreign Policy. |

Sue Chia
Associate Research Fellow
Ng Sue Chia is Associate Research
Fellow for the Homeland Defence Programme at the
Centre of Excellence for National Security, S.
Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang
Technological University. Her research interests
are homeland transport security, supply chain
security, national and homeland security practices,
food security, Indochinese socio-politico history,
Franco-Viet literature and the political-economy
of Vietnam.

Jenna Park Ji Hyun
Associate Research Fellow Jenna Park is an Associate Research Fellow for the Radicalization Programme at the Centre of Excellence for National Security, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University. She obtained a MSc in International Political Economy from RSIS. Her research interests are globalization and radicalization, the psychological analysis of radicalization, and the relationship between internet and radicalization.

Tuomo Tarmo Aatos Kuosa
Post-Doctoral Fellow
Dr Tuomo Kuosa is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He obtained his M.A. of Political Science from University of Tampere, Finland in 2001, and his PhD of Economic Sociology from Turku School of Economics, Finland in 2009. The title of the PhD thesis was: Towards the Dynamic Paradigm of Futures Research: How to Grasp a Complex Futures Problem with Multiple Phases and Multiple methods. Prior to his assignment in RSIS-CENS, Kuosa worked as a project manager in Finland Futures Research Centre, Turku School of Economics from 2002 to 2009, and before that in Ministry of Employment, in VTT National Technological Research Centre, and in Finland Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UN unit. Kuosa has worked in various EU foresight projects and in national foresight projects with great societal interest. He has steered over 40 futures-oriented workshops, given over 200 guest talks, and published a dozen international review articles and dozens of other types of articles or reports. His key areas of expertise are foresight methodologies, future of education, competence foresight, and holistic sense-making of societal transformation. Yeap Su Yin
Associate Research Fellow
Yeap Su Yin is an Associate Research Fellow for the Social Resilience Programme at the Centre of Excellence for National Security, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University. She obtained a MSc in Strategic Studies from RSIS. Her research interests include human rights law, refugee issues and the relationship between law and religion.
